No Me

You have no fixed self. This is only an illusion that causes you to feel pain and suffering. -Frederick Lenz

The Me, which we think to be an integrated individual – is constructed and emerges out of mind narratives. Self I and me, are linguistic reference points that connect experiences together and gives an assumption that there is a distinct someone. There is no Self, there is no entity as Me, although it always appears that there is a Me a person who is feeling, thinking, perceiving, and interacting with the world, but nothing within points to that. Emerging into a false existence with each thought, mind talk, stories moment by moment creates layers of beliefs and illusion, perpetuates a pseudo Self.

Be melting snow. Wash yourself of yourself.- Rumi

Me, other, us, them, they and the world - all are appearances, thoughts, and formations associations sprouting in consciousness. Flashes of past experiences, stored memories brings about the sense of Self, solidifies the sense of me, my life, my childhood, my hobbies, preferences etc. All that is now coming up in the present is just past thoughts and images, and have no reality. Attention grabs on to these memories with identification the Me and mine arise, pain, suffering, and misery also arise.

Annata doctrine, the Buddha attributed the concept of a self as both illusory and a source of unhappiness, suffering. All is just imagination but no imaginer. Whatever that seems to think it is the Me and is trying to understand this game and is seeking for answers is like dog chasing to catch its own tail.

Obscurations impurities from ignorance muddles and deludes the aware consciousness it hooks on to beliefs, breaks the being, creates separation. Mind movement leads to dualistic perspective of Me other, subject-object association supports the idea of self or person within. The habitual usage of language- I mine- sets a belief that there is an unchanging permanent entity within and everything revolves around this. But there is no separate Me/self; there is only the simple experiencing, cognition or awareness. When the process of self-realization begins the true nature of Self is revealed the truth of the other is unveiled.

How much ever I look within, there is only open dark space, can’t find Myself. It is liberating to realize that there is no one anywhere. Direct realization of no other but only bodies floating –anxiety gripped within it is still sinking into the being. The dichotomy is dissolving, sense of Me is slowly but surely melting, nothing here, nothing there, empty awareness. If all past memories I could wipe out, wake up every morning fresh a new birth then there would be no concept of I Me, Self is obliterated it can’t standalone without crutches of the past. Just as water in a mirage, a human figure in a post is nothing but a reflection, an illusion, so is the illusion of Self, Me and the other, a person in a body.

There Is No Self Or Soul – Khandas

Appearances

Let what comes come, let what goes go. - Ramana Maharshi

All relative phenomena or appearances arise and disappear in awareness like waves on surface of the ocean caused by winds. Ocean of awareness, bubbles and waves arising on the surface are all the appearances perceived by the senses caused by stirring of awareness. Waves cannot be separated from the ocean, phenomenon arise from awareness cannot be segregated from it, they are non-dualistic. Both samsara and nirvana are manifestations pervaded by the same awareness, it is the basis for every kind of manifestation.

The appearances are contents of the aware presence. These are magical illusions spontaneously emerging modulations of consciousness, moment by moment changing dream-like appearances, fantasies, perceptions, thoughts. They are unsubstantial, do not possess any independent identity or inherent self-existence outside of consciousness awareness which is both conceiving and perceiving them.

Christ, Buddha, and Krishna are but waves in the Ocean of Infinite Consciousness that I am! ~ Swami Vivekananda

Even a “person” body-mind are illusory dream, empty name and form appearing in awareness.  Phenomena are constant folding and unfolding changing forms appear as color, shape, taste, texture. But awareness obscured by conditioned ignorance and deluded thoughts create the illusory appearances of changing forms, due to which they seem to exist independently as separate objects. This dualistic view of reality a mind projection, a finite experience of subject/object, good/bad etc a world of objects which are actually not there but produced by figment of fantasy. Nevertheless, all phenomena, are by nature beyond duality, beyond all false discriminations created by the mind; insubstantial and empty of intrinsic beingness.

Where consciousness is concerned, the appearance is the reality.— John Searle

All is born within sphere of non-duality, abide and function within non-duality, and finally disappears into the ocean of non-duality. Just as all beings born into this world of duality, live life in diversity and multiplicity and pass away into nothingness all occurring within the space of non-duality. Similar to wave forms arising continually changing on the ocean surface, but the water itself remains as one seamless whole.

This sea of aware presence, I Am open spaciousness being is impersonal absolute vastness. All sensation and perception, each thought and experience, rise and fall within I the awareness selfless consciousness in which the drama of life, dream-like World & Me, mine, myself unfolds.

No matter what sort of appearance or experience, none lasts, but I Am the aware presence is the radiant ground for unceasing manifestation, conceiving perceiving each thing, yet remains unaffected, unassociated I Am, the essence of awareness. Therefore, all phenomenon is none other than me.

Just as all images borrow their reality from the screen, so all thoughts, sensations and perceptions borrow their seeming reality from myself, awareness.-Rupert Spira

Labeling Consciousness

Labeling makes the invisible visible, but it's limiting. Categories are the enemy of connecting. Link, don't rank. - Author: Gloria Steinem

Habitual nature of mind is labeling the self, labeling the other, labeling conditions, circumstances, relationships, and a horrifying experience that freezes and condemns the consciousness. The I thought is a fundamental and a complex root label created by articulation of identity, biography,  projections, judgments, fear, aversions and desires, a duality of mind. This I thought with layers upon layers of labels expresses through the ego. By identifying, believing and holding onto the labels the ego is caught in web of delusion just as a spider is tangled and bound in its own web of creation.

Labels are based on assumptions and interpretations that filters, distorts and destroy reality, it fragments, clutters the mind, the consciousness, or the aware presence with objectification.  It is discriminating, a limitation on self, others, environment, and conditions resulting in conflict. Labeling is an attempt to manipulate, control, condescend and restrict the other or the environment, it is a form of imposition or aggression on the other by denying the infinite reality. Simply said, self-labelling is close mindedness, it is to tell the mind that it may consider ideas only in a certain group and must preemptively reject ideas that are beyond that group.

We put labels on people and fight wars over them. If we truly want harmony, we have to get past the labels.”- Wayne W. Dyer

Dropping labels by letting go of attachments and identifications, it liberates the bound consciousness, removes blockages. Meditation helps in self liberation from labeling. Conventionally, ego believes that there is a world of objects upon which are labelled and named. On self-realization, truth is realized that it is actually the reverse, the world is synonymous and comes into being by language and labels including the I thought.

To practice non labeling exercise in nature shifts the consciousness, the totality of the appearance, sounds etc. arise in the space of pristine awareness. There is silent aliveness, the picturesque nature appears as a painting on a canvas. Non labeling exercise at a public place such as cafΓ© is like a stage play. When this happens there is no person watching but it is the presence or aware space perceiving the arising and also at the same time awareness in the background of being. This can be one of the portals to realization, sense perception without mental labeling. An open vision, a simple way of seeing that is totally receptive, free of all tendencies to label and judge, there is only life presence.

The 'Mind' in it's nature is conditioned to 'label'. From people, to situations, and circumstances to everything in between. When we allow the mind to shut down we let things be as they are. - Author: Matthew Donnelly

Perceiving Perception

All the mighty world of eye and ear, both what they half-create, and what perceive.-William Wordsworth

Perception is not personal it does not belong to an individual as it may seem. The one who is perceiving is aware presence. Also, as it may seem, awareness is not standing apart at a distance and viewing the perception, but it is the intrinsic nature or substance of perception.  Perception is the limited and temporary activity or experience that arises within awareness. However, awareness itself is not limited, unaltered by the arousal of perception. All there is in this whole activity is only awareness.

When a red apple placed in front of a mirror, the reflection of the apple gives a red coloration to the mirror, which is transient. The red coloration is not an essential feature to the nature of the mirror. When the apple is removed the red color appearing on the mirror, disappears; it is just a reflection. Similarly, when perception goes, the awareness remains as luminous transparent empty back ground and then takes the shape of next perception.  Superficially, due to conditioning, from point of view of a separated self, perception seems limited but when viewed from inside, it is unlimited.

Though, awareness assumes a temporary name and form because it is intimately associated with the limited activity of perception; yet it is free of it.

Perception is a faculty of awareness, it is a form of knowledge, an activity of experiencing or awareness of sensing and perceiving.  Perceptions are temporary form of awareness which are labeled by thought as names, colors and shapes, textures, sound, taste, speech.

There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception.” – Aldous Huxley

We are conditioned to believe that hearing takes place inside the body through sense organs. But when observed by experience, there is no “a body”- there are just a clump of sensations and hearing occurs in the open field awareness or I Am, which is me. Hearing is a temporary modulation of awareness. It is made of awareness. Awareness takes shape of hearing. It is also noted there is not clear demarcation between hearing end and awareness or experience of hearing begins. It is all one experience occurring in awareness.

Likewise, all perceptions take place in me or I Am and the nature of experience of all perceptions are the –seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, tactile. It is all arising in awareness made of awareness.

All there is to perception is experiencing of it, consciousness or awareness of it. The knowledge of body and world are only sensations and perceptions. The body and world have never ever been experienced. The only substance in perceptions is awareness or pure consciousness.

The finite mind and conditioning impose limitation through which perceptions are filtered and the world is perceived. Therefore, the world appears consistent with those limitations. Seeing through colored glasses, the world appears colored and finite. The way reality appears depends upon the structure and faculties of the mind that perceives it. An insect mind and a human mind would perceive the same reality differently.

If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.-William Blake
